Townhouses in Portland Range from Affordable to Exceptional
July 2, 20264 Reasons to Live in the Pearl District
There are more condos to live in the Pearl District in Portland than ever before. This vibrant area was once occupied by warehouses, rail yards and light industry but has been undergoing steady redevelopment as a mixed use environment since the mid-80s. While renovation and new construction continue, Pearl District condos are some of the most desirable urban units in the city because they’re within walking distance to so many great places. Having a car is not necessary.
Pearl District condos tend to be priced higher than in many other downtown areas but there are ample reasons for paying the premium. Here are just a few reasons why people love living here.
Coffee Shops and Brewpubs
Coffee and beer are Portland staples. You can’t get closer to the great restaurants, coffee shops and pubs than by living in the Pearl District. Daily in the Pearl is a bustling neighborhood eatery offering Stumptown coffee and a variety of hot and yummy local and ethnic favorites. Nossa Familia Coffee offers freshly roasted java and espresso and weekly tours of their 13th Street roasting house.
Deschutes Brewery is an award-winning Oregon original and a favorite meeting place in the Pearl. Choose from 26 handcrafted beers and ales and dine on some fresh, locally sourced pub food, created by an executive chef. Choices range from spectacular small bites and salads to grilled steak, and ahmazing mac & cheese. This place can get crowded in the evenings but its worth inserting yourself and your friends in the cozy bar in order to enjoy the atmosphere and the beer.
Art and Entertaininment
The Pearl district has art galleries galore and live entertainment too. Enjoy jazz most nights at the classy Benson Hotel. Take in a play at the Portland Center Stage, one of the largest regional theaters in the U.S. PCS has two stages and is housed in the historic Gerding Armory building. Or stroll over to waterfront and join the crowds at one of the many weekend concerts and art festivals.
Shopping
Whether you’re on the hunt for a new fashion statement or looking to decorate your new condo, the Pearl has a sumptuous selection. Find great outdoor gear at Filson’s. Christopher David has their flagship store here and of course there’s Whole Foods, the Saturday farmer’s market and the Monday summer farmer’s market at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
Some of the Best Portland Highrises
Most of the newer high rises are here too, with all the bells and whistles. Cosmopolitan in the Pearl District is the newest highrise condo addition to the area. This gleaming 28-story modern tower offers 1-2 bedroom luxury flats, several floors of “luxe” living spaces with extra room and higher-end finish. There are also eight sprawling penthouses and a few retail units on the ground floor. Residents enjoy 24-hour concierge service and a full menu of amenities.
The Edge highrise is another notable condo community in the Pearl. This glass cube is also a mixed-use development – in keeping with the Pearl’s conscious commitment to design a socially connected community atmosphere where you can walk to just about where ever you want to go. REI’s new Portland store and garage parking occupy the first four floors. The top floors of this 11 story contemporary high rise house 123 spacious lofts.
